About the history of the property:

Hugo Stange was born in Wuppertal, Germany, in 1850 and visited Brazil at the beginning of the following century, after the first world war. He was looking for a place where he could settle down and raise a family. Before deciding on Brazil, he visited Spain, Egypt, Japan, Siberia, India and China. He brought his chosen one Irma, also from Wuppertal, to Santa Catarina, where they married in 1928. From this marriage two girls were born, Liane and Inge. At the end of the 1930s, the family, like many others and due to propaganda from Germany, which was in need of labor, decided to return to their homeland. Appalled by the loss of a daughter and devastated financially and morally, the family returned to Brazil in 1937 and began rebuilding their lives. He as a Mechanical Technician and she as a Seamstress worked intensely.

In 1950 they began construction of their residence on Rua Coronel Feddersen in Blumenau. They completed the work three years later and proudly occupied the best house in the region. After Hugo’s death in 1958, the Inge – Carlos Gunther Frank family decided to move there to welcome the now widowed Irma. In 2013, Gunther decided to rebuild the house where it is today.

Over the course of a year, the house is carefully dismantled, tile by tile, brick by brick. All materials are meticulously cleaned and selected. From the granite blocks of the foundation, to the peroba flooring, cedar skirting boards, cinnamon beams and rafters, doors, everything was used to build the new house, which maintains the architecture and division of the original house.

The wooden trunk in the garage brought the family’s belongings from Germany after the war. The furniture in the pantry, living room and bedroom were part of the couple’s trousseau. The staircase that is now in the garage allowed the family to escape to the attic during the great floods of 1983 and 1984. The main entrance door is also the original, with the initials HS on the iron grille built by Hugo himself.
