The setting of this valley is a 7 ha primary forest (mata atlantica) which offers a grandiose panoramic view from all the homes.  About the history of the Property:

23/08/1993 – 14/08/2009 : the property of ~29ha belongs to Sr Percival Lopes Alvarenga, agronomist working for CEPLAC, the research center on cacao. Main productions at that time : coconut, rubber-trees, cassava and watermelon. He progressively converted to mainly coconut production and also planted many different fruit trees, approximately 30 among them cupuaçu, graviola and acerola still in production today.

14/08/2009 : the property is purchased by Didier Jousse , french, and Marta Sonia Rodrigues de Oliveira, french and brazilian from the inner region of Bahia state with the intention of having a place to stay for retirement. Their residence is Paris. Subsequently, an other property of ~11ha belonging to a neighbor is purchased, bringing the total surface area of the farm to 40ha.

2009 – July 2015 : the farm is maintained in this state by a housekeeper living permanently with his family in a small house at the entrance to the property (casa de caseiro). The owners spend 1 month each year during vacation and decide for this reason to build a small house of 70m2 that could afford 6 people and called it Le Cabanon. The construction was made in 2010 and a large varanda of 70m2 with fantastic view over the property was added in 2015. A 60m2 warehouse made of cement blocks and closed with iron curtains was built in 2014 to store the upcoming move from France by container.

July 2015 – March 2017 : building the new facilities to operate as a small guesthouse and horse riding ranch with top requirements: it has to be beautiful, ecological and sustainable with the aim to reinforce the protection of primary rainforest and its inhabitants . For the construction project, the most renowned architect of Itacaré Ademar Sa was selected for its rustic and chic style at the same time. It includes the landlord house with 3 bedrooms, 3 independent bungalows with suites called Musica, Oceano, and Sertão, and a common clubhouse fully equipped for catering: bar, pizza oven, barbecue motorized, “fogão a lenha” because it was planned to be a restaurant initially. The construction was carried out by a team from the neighboring town of Serra Grande. In parallel, the facilities for the horses were constructed by the owner and his permanent employee who had some skills in building local houses and carpentry: saddle room, pantry for food and 70m2 shelter for 6 horses. A logo was created as well as a website as www.itacareecoranch.com based on the wix platform which allows easy revisions . As a consequence visibility on accomodations and horse riding options were greatly enhanced.

March 2017 – now : running as Itacaré EcoRanch, highly rated on social media like Google and Trip Advisor for guest accomodation and rated N°1 for horseback rides in Bahia. The three sources of income were in order of importance: accommodation in bungalows or furnished house, horseback rides, and finally the sale of coconuts (20,000/year). For the owners, it was a complement of income because they have been benefiting from their retirement pensions since 2015. The farm has been run as a hobby rather than a real business. With the age of 70 coming, they decided to stop standard accomodation of tourists in bangolows and concentrate on ranch activities.

February 2019 – now : offering vacations of 6 nights/5 horse riding days to groups of 2 to 4 people coming from Europe. Sales are made through specialized agencies: Rando Cheval and Cheval d’ Aventure in France and from 2024 Unicorn Trails in England and Pferd und Reiter in Germany. Equestrian stays are now the main income with very high gross margins.

October 2023: the owners take the decision to move back to France for family reasons. The farm is divided in three areas for sale: 1) the main one called legally Fazenda Princesinha do Vale contains all the EcoRanch facilities and 15,7ha of land, half of it cultivated (coconut trees and horse pastures), half of it rainforest, 2) a land area of 13,5ha designated Fazenda Vale do Cupuaçu, 3) a land area of 10ha closer to the road called Fazenda Dois Corações.

Future owners of the EcoRanch will come with their own ideas and can use the existing infrastructure first to enjoy the beauty and warm climate but also, if they wish, enlarge the business opportunities in the direction they will select. Among the possibilities: increase hotel activity, run the clubhouse as a restaurant, develop the equestrian stays or wellness stays.
